Our Story

The Sou’wester is more than a lodge. It is a vibrant gathering place in historic Seaview, Washington, where travelers, artists, and locals come together in celebration of nature, art, stillness, and community. Here, creativity flows as naturally as conversation, and the rhythms of coastal life invite rest, connection, and play.

Built in 1892, the lodge has stood on this corner of the Long Beach Peninsula for more than a century, welcoming generations of guests drawn to the salty air and a sense of escape. From the main lodge to our collection of vintage travel trailers, every space carries stories that stir nostalgia and anchor us to the history of the coast. The full tide of our story continues on the History page, where the past and present meet.

Today, the Sou’wester grounds are a tapestry of charming lodge rooms, cozy cabins, vintage trailers, and RV campsites. It is a retreat for those who crave something authentic and full of character. Our grounds hum with life: a front porch market with unique provisions, a Finnish cedar sauna tucked among the trees, a lodge living room where strangers become friends, and a Saturday night concert tradition that keeps music at the heart of our space.

Where Creativity Belongs

Through our nonprofit, Sou’wester Arts, we host year-round artist residencies, workshops, free concerts, and gallery and film exhibitions that spark inspiration for artists and visitors alike. Whether you come for a quiet retreat or a fully immersive creative getaway, you become part of a vibrant hub of art and community on the edge of the Pacific.

What makes the Sou’wester special is not just the iconic trailers or its setting between woods and sea. It is the people who gather here. We are a home for travelers and neighbors, for families and wanderers, for artists and dreamers. Every visit adds another layer to our evolving story.

An Invitation

Here, mornings might begin with coffee by the hearth or a walk across the grounds as music drifts through salty, swirling mist. Afternoons spill into mossy trails that lead toward the sea. Evenings invite meaningful conversations by the campfire, steam rising from the sauna as the forest sways outside, or a quiet date with your favorite VHS. Whether you come to create, to rest, or to connect, you are woven into the life of this place.
