Open Call To Artists: Group Exhibition

Exhibition Title: “Ecological Niche: Gathering A Story Of Place”

January 1 – March 7, 2026

This curated group art exhibition looks at ecological niche as the role and position a species has in its environment, encompassing how it survives, reproduces, and interacts with both living and non-living factors. It includes everything from the physical conditions it tolerates to its food sources, behaviors, and relationships with other species. Each artist has gathered their story of place as it connects to the Pacific Northwest and the Long Beach Peninsula.

Jamin London Tinsel

Jamin London Tinsel is a studio artist and high school art educator living in Portland, Oregon. A previous Sou’wester Artist-In-Residence and workshop instructor, Jamin works with a variety of materials including ceramics, fiber, and paper.
“Creating a series of objects is how I explore, grouping similar objects together in conversation. Mostly, I’ve chosen clay as my medium. Clay can capture the gesture of an instant and preserve it far beyond one human life.”

Sahar Rosenbaum

Born in the Middle East and raised in South Africa, Sahar Rosenbaum’s artistic vision is shaped by a rich cultural tapestry. With a mother who was an artist and an upbringing surrounded by color and texture, Sahar developed a love for bold palettes and intricate patterns. Now retired in Ocean Park, WA, her work reflects the Pacific Northwest’s serenity, adopting a softer, more contemplative palette. Her fiber art merges multicultural influences with coastal inspiration, resulting in pieces that are both vivid and introspective.

Hans Miles

Hans Miles is a recent Master of Art graduate from Notre Dame and the studio manager at Ilwaco Artworks, located just across the street from the gallery. Raised in Prescott, Arizona by a family of artists and makers, Hans studied atmospherically fired pottery and cast objects at Arizona State University. After coordinating the Art and Industry Residency at Mission Clay and earning his MFA from the University of Notre Dame, Hans expanded his practice into monumental-scale ceramic sculpture. His past roles include Assistant Coordinator at The Don Reitz Collection and Ceramic Program Director at Cosanti.

Meaghan Lynch

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Meaghan Lynch collaborated with Sou’wester Arts during her residency to create a portfolio of botanical illustrations highlighting the unique plant communities of the Long Beach Peninsula. Her process involves exploring the landscape, speaking with locals, and researching ecological and cultural histories. The resulting collection acts as a living key—inviting viewers to see native plants not as background but as distinct characters with their own stories and ecological importance.
