Sassy Planters w/Nickolas Hurlbut
Create a Ceramic Planter with personality! In this workshop you will learn how to hand-build a planter pot using coil and pinch methods. You will then learn how to sculpt and add on, feet, arms, hands, high heels, facial features, etc to make a planter that’s uniquely yours.
Nickolas Carl Hurlbut is a Queer Ceramicist, Photographer and Interdisciplinary Artist currently getting his MFA in Art at Washington State University. Before his move to Pullman,WA for graduate school he lived in Portland, OR for 13 years where he taught High School Ceramics and Art. Nick started his business, Sassy Ceramics, in 2020 selling his work online, in galleries, and art markets throughout the Pacific Northwest. Nickolas was also part of the Oregon Potters Association while living in Portland, through this organization he helped organize and participated in Ceramics Showcase-the largest showcase of Ceramic artwork in North America and Ceramics Northwest-a pop up gallery in downtown Portland. His pieces are usually thrown on the wheel and then sculpted onto with some being completely hand built or thrown. His work considers how functional pieces can have their own life and personality and how items can be interactive instead of stagnant.
