Aug 25 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Summer 2018 Workshop Series

The Art of Seasonal Nourishment: An Ayurvedic “Cook, Learn & Eat” Dinner Party with Elyssia Maya Schaeffer

Come cook, learn and dine with Elyssia Maya Schaeffer, Ayurvedic Nutritionist, after a fun day at the coast! We will explore summer seasonal foods, herbs and spices while preparing Ayurvedic Kitchari – a delicious traditional Ancient Indian one-pot cleansing dish – and an herbal refrigerant tea.

Filled with fresh, nourishing ingredients to balance the energies of any season, Kitchari is an indispensable addition to your repertoire of home recipes. Apply your new Ayurvedic cooking skills to make quick, healthy and filling school or work lunches, a hearty meal to share with loved ones or a supportive dish for your next cleanse.

Through this interactive workshop, you will learn which foods are your best allies in summertime and gain a deeper understanding of why eating seasonally is so critical to our health through the wisdom of Ayurvedic principles.

Elyssia Maya Schaeffer is a Certified Ayurveda and Yoga Teacher, Holistic Nutritionist and Certified Wellness Coach living in Portland, Oregon with her fun loving husband and two cheeky chihuahuas. Elyssia found Ayurveda – the medical system of Ancient India, which translated from Sanskrit means “the knowledge of life” – through Yoga. After years of asana practice, she was drawn to the philosophical side of the Yoga tradition and from here was introduced to the sister science of Yoga – Ayurveda. In addition to teaching workshops in Portland, Elyssia co-runs the monthly Center for Ayurveda and Yoga Study Clinic with her mentor and a colleague. Art Exhibit

Treasure From

by artist Jillian Barthold
March 8 through June 2, 2019

A new art exhibit in a vintage travel trailer turned into a permanent art gallery, at The Sou’wester Lodge

‘Treasure From’ is a new series of illustrations by Portland-based artist Jillian Barthold that explores her relationship to the objects surrounding her and their worth – while removing the word worth from the context of monetary value. The series examines what constitutes treasure to an individual and finds that perhaps most often, treasure is less about the object itself and more about where it comes from.

OPENING RECEPTION on Friday March 8, 6pm-9pm.

OPEN: Fri/Sat/Sun 9am-9pm (and by request: visit the lodge front desk and we’ll open the gallery for you)

Art Gallery & Opening Reception free and open to the public.

Jillian Barthold is an illustrator, designer, and maker originally from nowhere, but currently living in Portland, OR. Her work is heavily inspired by the Japanese world view or aesthetic of wabi-sabi, travel, and child-like wonder. She creates and makes many things under the moniker Monster Songs. Other enjoyments include, but are not limited to, staring at the moon, sitting in the ocean, and playing fetch with her cats.

This trailer is a 1960’s Aloha made in Aloha, Oregon. It was rescued from a neglected RV park in the northern part of the Long Beach Peninsula. This class is part of a 2-day mini-wellness series on the energetic body. The classes are geared to be in tandem but are also “stand alone” workshops and may be attended separately. See below the details for the 1st class. (The 2nd class is The Subtle Body: Essential Oils, Movement, Mudra and Mantra to Balance the 7 Major Chakras and details can be found via title link.)

In this workshop, you will learn about the basic attributes of the subtle body (energy body) and it’s 7 major energy centers, or chakras. Explore the landscape of this system through meditation, art, movement and questions. Emily Dalsfoist is a musician, yoga teacher and essential oil lover and educator living in Portland, OR. During Emily’s first yoga teacher training in 2009, she developed an interest in the subtle body and chakra system. She is fascinated with the human body and the relationship between the subtle and the more tangible aspects of the human experience. Since 2010, Emily has completed multiple continuing education courses and has been a facilitator for teacher trainings as well as workshops and lectures on the subtle body system and essential oils. She guides her workshops through a trauma informed lens and with an intention of supporting her clients in their personal healing journey. She facilitates with a wholistic approach and includes a plethora of healing modalities that she has studied and experienced. “I am forever humbled and inspired by the continued adventure of self-inquiry, play and reflection and the bravery of each individual who shows up to do the work. It is a gift for me to be your guide and to learn from you.”

Have you experienced butterflies in your stomach before giving a presentation, or trying something new? Do you get a “frog in your throat” when you have something really meaningful to say but don’t necessarily know how to express it? Have you noticed your bowel movements shift when you have traveled, changed jobs or homes? These are some of the ways our subtle body imbalances ripple into our physical experience. In this workshop, you will be encouraged to explore your personal relationship with your 7 major energy centers, or chakras, of the subtle body through multiple senses and activities that are fun, safe, simple and inquisitive. You will gain a deeper knowledge of your own energy and be offered simple practices and insights to practice at home that support alignment and balance within your own energy. The intention is that each participant walks away with a deeper connection with their innate power and sense of Self.
