Brooke Shepherd

Growing up on the West Coast with the Pacific Ocean in my backyard has most definitely shaped my creative processes: salt air, the rhythm of waves crashing, the cycle of the tides and the moon…these are the memories that I invoke which inform most of my work. Seawater Studio is my textile arts studio based in Portland, Oregon. I create a seasonal collection of garments and accessories as well as collaborate with other artists in order to produce one-of-a-kind handwoven yardage for the fashion, interior design, and costuming industries. I aim to use only sustainable and organic yarns, dyes, and fabrics in my work and am especially inspired by the mission of the  Fibershed movement.

Deirdre Spahr, Deirdre’s love for the outdoors began as a child in Pennsylvania where, from a young age, she and her little sister had free range of the farm fields, woods and creeks surrounding their home. Her parents are both active environmentalists and outdoor enthusiasts who have long supported her interests in sustainable development. Before becoming a Waldorf school teacher and moving to Portland, Deirdre worked with non-profit groups in New York to develop educational programming for children and adults, on environmental and humanitarian issues. It is Deirdre’s hope to reawaken conscious connection with nature and community through fun . . . and a fair amount of goading people into putting away their cell phones to engage directly with mud, bugs, skipping stones, stinging nettle, the pouring rain, climbing trees and more, as much as possible.

We’ll warm up the imagination with model essays and short prompts. Then, it’s feet to pavement and pen to the page.

Her essays appear in The Rumpus, Passages North, The Collagist, South Dakota Review, Seneca Review, Essay Daily, and elsewhere. Aimee Ward is an intuitive and clairvoyant energy healer who works directly with Spirit to create personalized and effective healing protocols. Her tools range from working with guides and angels to using oracle cards, Pranic healing techniques, crystal programming and more.

She began her study of the esoteric arts at the age of 15 after experiencing a deep connection to the spirit realm during her childhood years attending church. It was there that she first met her spirit guides. In 2016, after taking an immersive Lightworker Training Course with Portland based lightworker Tatiana Sakurai, she began practicing and sharing energy healing, using aspects of Pranic Healing and Light Work. Working with clients, as well as a continued self-practice, has led her to creating the intuitive system she now uses. She is continually building her spiritual tool box to help herself and others peel back the layers, unfolding onto higher planes together with grace and joy.

Garnet Griebel is a Reiki certified crystal energy healer and jewelry designer.  She has been working with stones through making jewelry for over 20 years and has been immersing herself in the energy healing properties of gemstones for the past 6 years.  Garnet is passionate about awakening, empowering and uplifting people to heal themselves by giving them the metaphysical knowledge, tools of ascension and confidence they need to go forth on their individual healing journey.

She has developed her own unique style of energy work, which combines gemstone chakra alignment followed by gemstone therapy, Reiki and talk therapy. Garnet has treated numerous clients using crystal energy healing while continually growing her healing and teaching services. “The great healer lies within us all, so as a teacher, I aim to empower and uplift people to heal themselves by giving them the metaphysical knowledge, tools of ascension and confidence they need to go forth on their individual healing journey.”

A Playful Summer Movement Retreat and Campout

with Monicka Koneski and Britt Rhoden

Join Monicka and Britt for this sweet little summer gem of a retreat, where you’ll have an opportunity to move in a variety of ways while enjoying the beauty of the Pacific NW Coast! Both of these yoga and movement teachers share a dedication to smart and functional movement while offering you a chance to reconnect with yourself through yoga asana, somatic movement, meditation, playfulness and time in nature.

  • Four classes are offered that are full of fluid, mindful, intuitive movement
  • Lots of time to dive deep into your inner body space
  • Explore fun and creative ways to increase range of motion and cultivate strength in your practice

Monicka has been teaching movement since 1999. She has had the honor of being a part of The Bhaktishop Yoga Center since its inception, and under the gentle and encouraging guidance of Lisa Mae Osborn and Hari-bhakti dasi, as well as a number of other inspired and influential teachers, she has completed more than 500+ hours of yoga education and training. When not teaching or studying yoga, Monicka is either engaged in her work as a licensed massage therapist where she is able to spend valuable one-on-one time with those who are looking to find ease, presence, and balance in their bodies, or wrapped in love and life lessons with her dear little son, Kavi. It is Monicka’s goal as a bodywork practitioner, anatomy and kinesiology geek, yoga teacher, Mama, and student of bhakti yoga to serve and honor each individual that she encounters, whether on the mat or off, in the best and truest way that she knows how. “Movement is still endlessly fascinating to me, but it is truly the connection to Self and Source that we may encounter while engaged in yoga practices that has me hooked.”

Britt’s yoga journey started at age 17. As her body and soul changed and shifted with the ebbs and flows of life’s tides, yoga was the compass that gently guided her into new territory. Now, more than ever before, yoga is the way she shows respect for the beauty of life and the energy of the earth. Yoga is where Britt plays and explores; it’s where she finds a sense of being grounded and a sense of stillness. Britt seeks to meet all students with authenticity, giving them space to explore their own practice. She is a class of 2015 graduate of The Bhaktishop’s 200 Hour Program.

Let That Shift Go!

Cultivating Compassion During Shifty Times

with Shanna Gillette

Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” But changing our old habits and patterns can be challenging. Just like your car or smartphone, the better you understand how to operate something, the more efficiently it will work. Your body and mind are no different. Ancient yogic science knows we are all connected and we need each other now more than ever. Happiness is not some destination to reach for outside of ourselves. True inner peace lies within.

Western medicine teaches us that mind, body & spirit are all separate entities. Our individualistic culture disconnects us from nature, from each other, and from ourselves. We’ve been taught to devalue community and cooperation and to favor competition. But the times they are a changing – quickly.

Are you ready to begin the journey back home to yourself?

During this retreat, learn ancient yogic techniques mixed with mindfulness and proven methods to connect to our divine essence through the art of embodied movement. We will create a caring, non-judgmental space for somatic exploration; a safe container to explore grounding energies, heart-centered movement, and our own natural rhythms through gentle guided instruction. One part physical, one part mental, and one part open-hearted exploration, this retreat will reconnect your mind, body & spirit to help to awaken you to your true potential without limitations. Find your breath. Express your truth. Learn to become the master of your own mind. Transform the weight you’ve been carrying into something new. Join us for three amazing days designed to help you emerge from the ashes and let that shift go.

Offerings will include:

Daily yoga and guided meditation, movement methods for somatic release, neuroscience & mindfulness education, individual therapeutic sessions, stress reduction techniques, restorative yoga in the evenings by candlelight, nature walks and beach time during the day & healthy meals cooked together (optional).

Shanna Gillette is a certified yoga instructor, empowerment coach, intuitive guide and motivational speaker. She holds a degree in consciousness studies and has an extensive background in neuroscience, meditative techniques, theology, and more recently, conscious dance. She has been facilitating classes and workshops for the last two years throughout Washington and Oregon guiding people through the process of becoming aware of their own destructive, repetitive thinking patterns/habits along with tangible, practical methods to reprogram for more happiness and success. “Basically,” she says, “I teach people how to be nicer to themselves.”  She is available for private sessions, group & corporate workshops, retreats and on-line at justbevibration.com.
