At Ilwaco Artworks Community Clay Studio – 109 1st ave N Ilwaco, WA.

In collaboration with the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge. Learn about an aspect of local ecology through hands-on clay arts projects!

Thanks to a generous grant from ArtsWA, our Family Clay Plays are offered at no tuition cost! We have a sliding scale registration fee of $0-$25 per person, which includes all materials, glazing, and firing for 1-2 pieces.

Registration: Please purchase one ticket for each person in your party and note the ages of your party in the “Add a note to seller” section on the payment page. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Attendance Policy: We appreciate your understanding as we reserve spots for you and your family. If you cannot attend, please let us know at least 7 days in advance for a full refund. Sat, Feb 1st: Intro to Natural Dye | 10am-2pm w/visiting artist, Katey Rissi at The Sou’wester Lodge Pavilion. 3728 J Pl Seaview, WA. Ages 10+ w/an adult or ages 14+.

Learn about the magic of creating color with plants in this introduction to natural dye workshop. This class will lay a solid foundation down to help you understand the fundamentals of how natural dyeing works, so you can continue a dye practice yourself. We will discuss the history of plant color, what fabrics to use, how to prepare fabric for dyeing, and of course, which plants to work with. Students will leave the class with a dye swatch book and a bundle dyed bandana.

at Ilwaco Artworks – 109 1st Ave N. Ilwaco, WA.

Ages 10+ w/an adult or ages 14+. Beginner-friendly/all experience levels welcome.

Create your own candlestick holder set! This beginner-friendly class provides all the essentials, including tools, clay, glaze, and firing for at least 2 candlestick holders.You will learn how to create candlestick holders through two methods of hand building- sculpting and slab building. 

Nickolas Hurlbut is a seasoned ceramic artist and high school ceramics teacher currently based in Portland, OR. With a bachelors in Art Education and Studio Art and a Masters in Art Education. He is a queer ceramicist making Sassy inspired ceramics bringing together style and function to create unique and joyous housewares and fine art. A member of the Oregon Potters association, he sells work through his website, and participates in markets throughout the PNW.

Sat, Feb 15th: Learning Linoleum-Cut Block Printing | 10am-2pm w/visiting artist, Heidi Keith at The Sou’wester Lodge Pavilion. 3728 J Pl Seaview, WA. Ages 10-13 w/an adult or ages 14+. All levels welcome.

Join Heidi to explore the vibrant world of lino block printing and take home your own stunning prints! This workshop provides an excellent opportunity to learn the process of creating beautiful linoleum prints. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the technique, ensuring they gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in this unique art form. This workshop promises to be both educational and fun.

Heidi Keith was raised in western Montana. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon where she paints and teaches studio art. She earned a Bachelor and Masters degree from Portland State University. Keith also attended Pacific Northwest College of Art as a post bachelorette studying painting. Keith’s work is informed by her community and the land of the Pacific Northwest. Her large scale landscape and figurative projects have been exhibited throughout the west coast.

With visiting national artist, Stanton Hunter

This workshop is designed to inspire potters and sculptors to move beyond technical skills and tap into their aesthetic sensibilities, unlocking new strategies and possibilities in their creative process. Through hands-on clay projects focused on contemporary 3D design, visual experiments, engaging discussions, and curated image presentations, participants will explore ways to break through creative blocks and deepen their artistic expression. Whether you’re seeking fresh perspectives or looking to take your work to the next level, this workshop will help you approach your art with renewed creativity and purpose.

Stanton Hunter is a ceramic artist/recently retired professor, and exhibits his work nationally and internationally. Writings (both authored by and about him) and images of his work appear in numerous publications. He has been an instructor and guest lecturer at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, ran the ceramics program at Scripps College in Claremont for five years, was a Visiting assistant Professor of Art at Pitzer College also in Claremont, and from 2005 to 2024 was a Professor of Art at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He studied with Ken Price and Ralph Bacerra. Prior to art, he did his undergraduate work in perceptual psychology/alternative education at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, and pursued a career in music before the visual arts. Stanton’s work incorporates vessels, as well as autonomous sculptural forms, site-specific installations with work in or referring to the landscape.
