COMMUNITY CLAY PLAY
At Ilwaco Artworks
Clay Play is a casual, beginner-friendly session where you can learn handbuilding skills to create a finished piece! Ages 10+ w/an adult or ages 14+. $35/person. Register for any four Clay Plays for $100.
August Clay Plays | 10a-1p:
- 8/4: Sake Sets- Pinch/coil-built simple pouring vessel/vase with wide belly and narrow neck. Set of 4-6 matching shot-glass sized vessels.
- 8/11: Incense Holders
- 8/17: “The Open Cube” / Five-walled objects – Slab built vases, catch-all’s, herb planters, seed starters, bonsai, wall vases, jewelry holders. Leather hard slab construction.
- 8/18: Wind Chimes
- 8/24: Soft Slab Impression Objects – Soft slabs rolled over local leaves/flora and slump formed over ready-made objects like cups, bowls, cans, etc.
- 8/25: Ilwaco Art Walk Drop-in (1-4p no rsvp necessary): Mono Print Tiles.

Wheel Throwing 3-Week Series w/Hans Miles.
9/5 through 9/19, 5:30-7:30p. Ages 10-14 w/an adult or 14+.
This class will begin with the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel and guide learners towards their choice of one of three final projects: cups, bowls, or planters. The first session will cover the fundamental mechanics and process of throwing. The second session will focus on the nuances of form and technique for your specific project, while the third session will be dedicated to refining your work.
Intro to the Wheel Workshop
9/6, 5:30p-7:30p. Ages 10-14 w/an adult or 14+.
In this class, we will cover the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel. Learners will explore wedging, centering, and forming clay on the potter’s wheel with the goal of creating the fundamental pottery form: a cylinder. This introduction aims to provide a brief yet immersive experience in pottery making and inspire further exploration.
Handbuilding Fundamentals Workshop
9/7. 10a-1p w/Hans Miles at Ilwaco Artworks
In this introductory level class you will learn the three foundations of handbuilding: pinch pots, coil building, and slab building. This workshop will prepare you to be self-directed in the clay studio and includes a demonstration of common tools and underglazes on greenware.
