at Ilwaco Artworks – 109 1st Ave N. Ilwaco, WA.

Ages 10+ w/an adult or ages 14+. Beginner-friendly/all experience levels welcome.

In this class, students will learn how to apply overglaze decals to glaze-fired ceramics. The instructor will provide wood-fired mugs and a variety of decals to choose from. The workshop will also cover  applying decals to your work, purchasing overglaze decals online, designing simple custom decals, and the firing process needed to complete your decorated pieces. Participants may bring their own glaze-fired piece to decorate in addition to the provided mug (maximum size: 8 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter). Your finished work will be fired after the workshop and ready for pickup the following day, January 19th. For visiting attendees, shipping of finished pieces is available for $15 plus shipping costs.

Leo Moon is the solo incarnation of singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Brian Adrian Koch. California born and Oregon raised, Brian has been active in the Portland music scene since arriving in 2000. He is a current and founding member of indie rock band Blitzen Trapper (2000-present) and psychedelic folk duo Dead Lee (2018-2023)  Appearing now as a solo acoustic performer, his minimal and haunting tunes are stripped down paeans to the glorious absurdities of life; harmonica spattered psalms to the void. He is preparing to release his first full length album, The Fool.

Whether you’re new to the wheel or have years of experience, this class is designed to elevate your pottery throwing skills. Each session begins with a brief demonstration, followed by hands-on instruction tailored to naturally advance your abilities toward your personal goals. For advanced students, the projects are open-ended, allowing for creative exploration, while beginners will receive one-on-one guidance to successfully craft chosen objects like cups, bowls, planters, and more. We’ll examine wedging, throwing, trimming, altering, and surface treatment in depth to ensure you develop a well-rounded skill set.

Thanks to a generous grant from ArtsWA, our Family Clay Plays are offered at no tuition cost! We have a sliding scale registration fee of $0-$25 per person, which includes all materials, glazing, and firing for 1-2 pieces.

Registration: Please purchase one ticket for each person in your party and note the ages of your party in the “Add a note to seller” section on the payment page. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Attendance Policy: We appreciate your understanding as we reserve spots for you and your family. If you cannot attend, please let us know at least 7 days in advance for a full refund. Relief Prints on Fabric Workshop @ The Sou'wester Lodge Pavilion

Sat/Sun, Jan 25th & 26th: Relief prints on Fabric | 10am-2pm w/visiting artist Natalie Woodlock at The Sou’wester Lodge Pavilion. 3728 J Pl Seaview, WA. Ages 12+ w/an adult or ages 14+.

In this 2-day workshop we’ll make a small (9″ x 6″) decorative wall hanging, celebrating something or someone that is iconic to us. We’ll start by carving an image into a linoleum block, then hand-print it onto fabric. Using a template, we’ll cut the fabric into a decorative shape, sewing the edges with fringe and trim. Students will take home a decorative wall hanging of their own design, as well as extra prints on fabric.

Faces and Forms: Expressing Emotion Through Clay W/National Visiting Artist, Carli Giese @ Ilwaco Artworks

In this class we will explore the expressive potential of clay by focusing on the human figure and face. Participants will coil-build a small bust conveying an emotion of your choice, using clay as a means of self-expression and storytelling. Through hands-on guidance you will learn techniques for capturing likeness and feeling in your sculptures. This workshop is designed for all skill levels and will give you a chance to experiment, make mistakes, and explore your creative instincts in a supportive environment. Together we will delve into the nuances of facial expression and form, helping you develop your skills and deepen your connection with the material.

Carli Giese is a ceramic artist based in Phoenix, AZ. She earned her BFA in Ceramics from Arizona State University in 2016 and completed a three-month residency at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China, with West Virginia University in 2015. After graduating, Carli worked as a studio assistant to Patricia Sannit and served as a studio technician at Phoenix College. She has also held multiple teaching positions. Carli later moved to Flagstaff, where she worked in the ceramics studio at Coconino Community College and completed a post-baccalaureate program at Northern Arizona University in 2020. In 2019, Carli received the Viola Award for Emerging Artist in Flagstaff. She now continues to create from her home studio in Phoenix.
