4-Week Handbuilding Series – Global Traditions of Ceramics @ Ilwaco Artworks
Nov 25 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Mondays, Nov 4th – Nov 25th: 4-Week Handbuilding Series – Global Traditions of Ceramics w/Hans Miles at Ilwaco Artworks. 109 1st Ave N Ilwaco, WA. All levels welcome. Ages 10-13 w/an adult or ages 14+. 2pm-4pm.

In this class, students will learn essential handbuilding techniques like pinching and coiling to create vessels inspired by a historical object (e.g., a Jomon pot, Minoan octopus vase, or Incan Moche vessel). A great way to incorporate personal narrative and explore ceramics’ rich history.

The course enhances handbuilding skills and concepts through in-depth practice and discussions on techniques, surface decoration, and materials, alongside perfecting fundamentals like wedging and glazing.

Day One:

Students will cover basic handbuilding techniques and complete their first, smaller vessel, gaining hands-on experience. The instructor will provide resources for researching the historical object for the second project.

Day Two:

This session focuses on refining the first vessel and starting the second. Students will learn about form design principles, discuss their chosen object’s history, and explore ways to integrate personal stories into their work.

Days Three and Four:

These sessions are dedicated to developing the personalized vessel project. With guidance, students will apply their skills to create a unique vessel that reflects their creativity and evolving style.

Twingle is the moniker of songstress and multi instrumentalists Anna Sabatino based out of Portland, OR. Raised in a one room cabin in the small town of Evergreen, Colorado she began writing songs at a young age featuring guitar and banjo. Her roots are in old timey folk and bluegrass, but later went on to realms of Experimental/Psychedelic/French pop which all work to cultivate her sound and melodic patterns. Songs that live somewhere in the realm of familiar but entirely unexpected. Twingle’s debut album ‘Future Caviar’ is out on Little Cloud Records.

John Lensing LIVE at The Sou’wester Lodge

Free & open to the public!

https://johnlensing.bandcamp.com/album/america-needs-therapy

John Lensing started out as a street performer, writing songs and driving around the US to play them for people. Slowly, this led to playing shows and festivals, but the goal has always been the same. To make people care — about others, themselves, and things that sometimes hurt to care about.

His genre-blurring songwriting has brought him on tours all across North America and Europe. Most notably playing a Sofar Sounds showcase at the Sommer in Altona festival (Hamburg), and being named “an artist to watch” by No Depression.
