During Emily’s first yoga teacher training in 2009, she developed an interest in the subtle body and chakra system. She guides her workshops through a trauma informed lens and with an intention of supporting her clients in their personal healing journey. She facilitates with a wholistic approach and includes a plethora of healing modalities that she has studied and experienced. “I am forever humbled and inspired by the continued adventure of self-inquiry, play and reflection and the bravery of each individual who shows up to do the work. Have you experienced butterflies in your stomach before giving a presentation, or trying something new? Do you get a “frog in your throat” when you have something really meaningful to say but don’t necessarily know how to express it? Have you noticed your bowel movements shift when you have traveled, changed jobs or homes? These are some of the ways our subtle body imbalances ripple into our physical experience. In this workshop, you will be encouraged to explore your personal relationship with your 7 major energy centers, or chakras, of the subtle body through multiple senses and activities that are fun, safe, simple and inquisitive. You will gain a deeper knowledge of your own energy and be offered simple practices and insights to practice at home that support alignment and balance within your own energy. The intention is that each participant walks away with a deeper connection with their innate power and sense of Self.

Radiant Fearlessness: Embracing Your Best YOU with the Tools of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation
with instructor Laurel Clohessy
This 4 hour workshop is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the joy, transformation, and rejuvenation of Kundalini Yoga, sacred chant, and creativity as you re-discover and return to your true self. Whether you are an experienced yogi, or this is your first time practicing Kundalini Yoga, you can benefit from this practice. Kundalini Yoga and meditation, as taught by Yogi Bhajan is for anyone and everyone. Just breathe, and lean in the right direction and you too will benefit! The best way to know it, is by doing it-so we will experience basic pranayam or breathwork, kriyas or yogic sets, meditations, and mantras that can become a part of your own daily toolbox. Tools to release stress, to unlock creativity, and be your best YOU. Kundalini yoga is often called “the yoga of awareness,” as it is a journey of self-mastery and one that activates all the systems of the body. We will enjoy the blessings of community-in a few group meditations and excercises, as well as the natural world-taking time by the ocean to practice a walking meditation. There will be a couple of brief writing and art meduims explored post-yoga sets. Kundalini Yoga is a tool to experience your birthright to happiness and greatness as the human being that you are. “Great challenges come to Great people.” -YB
I hope to see you there! Sat Nam
Laurel Clohessy (Deshpal Kaur) grew up with Kundalini Yoga sprinkled throughout her early childhood. She returned to the arms of this practice following the birth of her oldest son. In 2005 Laurel studied with Gurmukh to become a certified Khalsa Way Prenatal teacher. In 2007, she completed the Radiant Child teacher training with Shakta Kaur, and in 2014 Laurel completed her Level 1 KYTT with Sevak Singh Khalsa. Laurel often incorporates poetry and dance movement into her all-levels classes. It is her joy to share these teachings with others, and she sees the powerful practice of Kundalini Yoga as a compass that can always point us forward, as well as return us to the happiest, truest Self. Laurel teaches currently in Portland, Oregon and is a transplant from Flagstaff, AZ.

Nature/Nurture:
A Playful Summer Movement Retreat and Campout
with Monicka Koneski and Britt Rhoden
Join Monicka and Britt for this sweet little summer gem of a retreat, where you’ll have an opportunity to move in a variety of ways while enjoying the beauty of the Pacific NW Coast! Both of these yoga and movement teachers share a dedication to smart and functional movement while offering you a chance to reconnect with yourself through yoga asana, somatic movement, meditation, playfulness and time in nature.
- Four classes are offered that are full of fluid, mindful, intuitive movement
- Lots of time to dive deep into your inner body space
- Explore fun and creative ways to increase range of motion and cultivate strength in your practice
Monicka has been teaching movement since 1999. She has had the honor of being a part of The Bhaktishop Yoga Center since its inception, and under the gentle and encouraging guidance of Lisa Mae Osborn and Hari-bhakti dasi, as well as a number of other inspired and influential teachers, she has completed more than 500+ hours of yoga education and training. When not teaching or studying yoga, Monicka is either engaged in her work as a licensed massage therapist where she is able to spend valuable one-on-one time with those who are looking to find ease, presence, and balance in their bodies, or wrapped in love and life lessons with her dear little son, Kavi. It is Monicka’s goal as a bodywork practitioner, anatomy and kinesiology geek, yoga teacher, Mama, and student of bhakti yoga to serve and honor each individual that she encounters, whether on the mat or off, in the best and truest way that she knows how. “Movement is still endlessly fascinating to me, but it is truly the connection to Self and Source that we may encounter while engaged in yoga practices that has me hooked.”
Britt’s yoga journey started at age 17. As her body and soul changed and shifted with the ebbs and flows of life’s tides, yoga was the compass that gently guided her into new territory. Now, more than ever before, yoga is the way she shows respect for the beauty of life and the energy of the earth. Yoga is where Britt plays and explores; it’s where she finds a sense of being grounded and a sense of stillness. Britt seeks to meet all students with authenticity, giving them space to explore their own practice. She is a class of 2015 graduate of The Bhaktishop’s 200 Hour Program.

How the Light Gets In with instructor Suzie Kassouf
It can feel unbearable to carry the pain of our world in this unprecedented era of social upheaval and ecological destruction. Luckily, the task of tending to our broken world can infuse us with life-affirming purpose, connection and joy. Through vinyasa, meditation, group activities and time spent in nature, we will learn to honor our pain as a precious signifier of our compassion and care for our world. Most importantly, we will develop in ourselves a robust and muscular hope, rooted in the very unpredictability of these times. Leonard Cohen implores us, “ring the bells that still can ring/ forget your perfect offering/ there is a crack in everything/ that’s how the light gets in.” I look forward to sharing this with you.
Suzie Kassouf is an educator, yoga instructor and climate justice activist. After 10 years of personal practice, she completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training at The People’s Yoga with Suniti Dernovsek in 2018. She has worked extensively on multiple campaigns including Bernie Sanders’ 2016 Presidential Run and the 2018 Portland Clean Energy Fund. Suzie believes strongly that our world is desperate for healing on multiple levels, and that true liberation can be found in community and service to others. She is passionate about marrying activism and spirituality and strives to courageously live the path of nonviolence in her life and work.

Let That Shift Go!
Cultivating Compassion During Shifty Times
with Shanna Gillette
Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” But changing our old habits and patterns can be challenging. Just like your car or smartphone, the better you understand how to operate something, the more efficiently it will work. Your body and mind are no different. Ancient yogic science knows we are all connected and we need each other now more than ever. Happiness is not some destination to reach for outside of ourselves. True inner peace lies within.
Western medicine teaches us that mind, body & spirit are all separate entities. Our individualistic culture disconnects us from nature, from each other, and from ourselves. We’ve been taught to devalue community and cooperation and to favor competition. But the times they are a changing – quickly.
Are you ready to begin the journey back home to yourself?
During this retreat, learn ancient yogic techniques mixed with mindfulness and proven methods to connect to our divine essence through the art of embodied movement. We will create a caring, non-judgmental space for somatic exploration; a safe container to explore grounding energies, heart-centered movement, and our own natural rhythms through gentle guided instruction. One part physical, one part mental, and one part open-hearted exploration, this retreat will reconnect your mind, body & spirit to help to awaken you to your true potential without limitations. Find your breath. Express your truth. Learn to become the master of your own mind. Transform the weight you’ve been carrying into something new. Join us for three amazing days designed to help you emerge from the ashes and let that shift go.
Offerings will include:
Daily yoga and guided meditation, movement methods for somatic release, neuroscience & mindfulness education, individual therapeutic sessions, stress reduction techniques, restorative yoga in the evenings by candlelight, nature walks and beach time during the day & healthy meals cooked together (optional).
Shanna Gillette is a certified yoga instructor, empowerment coach, intuitive guide and motivational speaker. She holds a degree in consciousness studies and has an extensive background in neuroscience, meditative techniques, theology, and more recently, conscious dance. She has been facilitating classes and workshops for the last two years throughout Washington and Oregon guiding people through the process of becoming aware of their own destructive, repetitive thinking patterns/habits along with tangible, practical methods to reprogram for more happiness and success. “Basically,” she says, “I teach people how to be nicer to themselves.” She is available for private sessions, group & corporate workshops, retreats and on-line at justbevibration.com.
