Yoga Vinyasa Flow with Shanna Gillette
Apr 27 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

WEEKLY EVENT: YOGA

Candlelit Vinyasa Flow with Shanna Gillette

Drop in to this intermediate evening flow tuning into the breath and out of the chattering mind. Our focus is on balance, relaxation, flexibility, and acceptance of where we are. Fluid movement and creative transitions promote deep and even breathing to strengthen the nervous system and increase circulation to the organs. Binaural soundscapes open the mind to the vibration of universal consciousness. Guided meditation begin and end each class.

Shanna is a certified yoga teacher, ordained metaphysical counselor and empath. Her journey began as a small child inadvertently discovering deep meditation as an escape from abuse. Having always had an interest in the unseen and unexplained, she began having out of body experiences before learning to speak.  Eventually she received a regents scholarship to ASU for religious studies. A series of intense life changing experiences including a serious car accident brought her to the first of several “awakenings,” beginning most notably in 2005. She now helps people through the shift in consciousness we are currently experiencing, assisting them along the path toward self-forgiveness and self-love – the greatest journey of all.

Truly exemplifying her favorite quote from Kahlil Gibran, “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain,’ she adds, “The journey to wellness is a constantly evolving process where we learn to nurture body and mind beginning with the heart; To truly understand that the most important step to long-lasting good health and harmony isn’t necessarily about sweating our way to perfect abs or contorting our bodies into painful positions. It starts within. It’s about self-acceptance, self-forgiveness, and self-love. It’s about learning to accept and respect ourselves wherever we may be. Through the physicality of yoga, we tune into a deeper more expansive space beyond the trivial day to day. We learn that it’s ok to nurture ourselves and to ALLOW our spirits to be happy.”

Shanna received her yoga teacher’s certification at Bryan Kest’s world renowned studio in Santa Monica, CA. She attended Arizona State University for Religious Studies, and is currently studying at the University of Metaphysics Sedona. She is available for private yoga and counseling sessions and can be found at:

Summer 2018 Workshop Series

The Art of Wandering: A Writing and Walking Workshop with Erica Trabold

Where does the mind wander when you wander? This workshop encourages you to roam, embodying your writing practice and rooting your nonfiction in the physical world. Students will take a walk—on the beach, to town, or through the Sou’Wester property—to ground themselves in place and write about the experience. We’ll warm up the imagination with model essays and short prompts. Then, it’s feet to pavement and pen to the page.

Erica Trabold is the author of Five Plots (HWS Colleges Press, 2018), selected by John D’Agata as the winner of the inaugural Deborah Tall Lyric Essay Book Prize. Her essays appear in The Rumpus, Passages North, The Collagist, South Dakota Review, Seneca Review, Essay Daily, and elsewhere. A graduate of Oregon State University’s MFA program and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Erica writes and teaches in Portland, Oregon.

She guides her workshops through a trauma informed lens and with an intention of supporting her clients in their personal healing journey. She facilitates with a wholistic approach and includes a plethora of healing modalities that she has studied and experienced. “I am forever humbled and inspired by the continued adventure of self-inquiry, play and reflection and the bravery of each individual who shows up to do the work. The Subtle Body: Essential Oils, Movement, Mudra and Mantra to Balance the 7 Major Chakras with instructor Emily Dalsfoist

This class is part of a 2-day mini-wellness series on the energetic body. The classes are geared to be in tandem but are also “stand alone” workshops and may be attended separately. Have you experienced butterflies in your stomach before giving a presentation, or trying something new? Do you get a “frog in your throat” when you have something really meaningful to say but don’t necessarily know how to express it? Have you noticed your bowel movements shift when you have traveled, changed jobs or homes? These are some of the ways our subtle body imbalances ripple into our physical experience. In this workshop, you will be encouraged to explore your personal relationship with your 7 major energy centers, or chakras, of the subtle body through multiple senses and activities that are fun, safe, simple and inquisitive. You will gain a deeper knowledge of your own energy and be offered simple practices and insights to practice at home that support alignment and balance within your own energy. The intention is that each participant walks away with a deeper connection with their innate power and sense of Self.
