Yoga Vinyasa Flow with Shanna Gillette
Feb 16 @ 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

WEEKLY EVENT: YOGA

Candlelit Vinyasa Flow with Shanna Gillette

Drop in to this intermediate evening flow tuning into the breath and out of the chattering mind. Our focus is on balance, relaxation, flexibility, and acceptance of where we are. Fluid movement and creative transitions promote deep and even breathing to strengthen the nervous system and increase circulation to the organs. Binaural soundscapes open the mind to the vibration of universal consciousness. Guided meditation begin and end each class.

Shanna is a certified yoga teacher, ordained metaphysical counselor and empath. Her journey began as a small child inadvertently discovering deep meditation as an escape from abuse. Having always had an interest in the unseen and unexplained, she began having out of body experiences before learning to speak.  Eventually she received a regents scholarship to ASU for religious studies. A series of intense life changing experiences including a serious car accident brought her to the first of several “awakenings,” beginning most notably in 2005. She now helps people through the shift in consciousness we are currently experiencing, assisting them along the path toward self-forgiveness and self-love – the greatest journey of all.

Truly exemplifying her favorite quote from Kahlil Gibran, “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain,’ she adds, “The journey to wellness is a constantly evolving process where we learn to nurture body and mind beginning with the heart; To truly understand that the most important step to long-lasting good health and harmony isn’t necessarily about sweating our way to perfect abs or contorting our bodies into painful positions. It starts within. It’s about self-acceptance, self-forgiveness, and self-love. It’s about learning to accept and respect ourselves wherever we may be. Through the physicality of yoga, we tune into a deeper more expansive space beyond the trivial day to day. We learn that it’s ok to nurture ourselves and to ALLOW our spirits to be happy.”

Shanna received her yoga teacher’s certification at Bryan Kest’s world renowned studio in Santa Monica, CA. She attended Arizona State University for Religious Studies, and is currently studying at the University of Metaphysics Sedona. She is available for private yoga and counseling sessions and can be found at:

True Nature: Re-Connecting with our Essence through Meditation, Movement and Breath
Feb 18 @ 3:00 pm – Feb 21 @ 12:00 pm
A 3-night Wellness Retreat with Kelly Sunrose to reconnect with our true essence with our through meditation, movement and breath.

When we increase our capacity for attention and attune the senses, we can more readily receive healing from the elements that surround and fill us: earth, water, fire, air & space. This retreat will invite a bone-deep knowing of our innate connection with nature. During our time together, we will engage in both active and restorative yoga movements, pranayama, meditation and mantra. In addition to this deeply practical work, Kelly will lead lecture and discussion on how the practices relate back to traditional yoga texts and the role of each element in yoga philosophy. At least one of our practice gatherings will take place outdoors, so please bring seasonally-appropriate outerwear. Participants will leave with tools for nourishing each layer of the self with & through the elements.

Offerings provided by Sou’wester include:

Unchaste at The Sou’wester: Reading Series Hosted by Jenny Forrester

Unchaste at The Sou’wester: Reading Series Hosted by Jenny Forrester

This event is free and open to the public.

“The Unchaste Readers are women aged 14 to 71 who have read at Unchaste Readers Series between April 2012 and now. Unchaste is about creating a community, promoting writing that takes risks, that shows the raw, vulnerable, ecstatic, complicated lives of women, gender non-binary and gender-noncomforming – nearly anyone/everyone except CIS men.

They have been all kinds of sexual-preference-spectrum/woman-gender-spectrum/race/ethnicity/social-economic-politic status-in-the-hierarchy-patriarchy/experience/survivor/not-as-much-survivor/writing-reading-speaking-singing-playing-music forms. It’s been such a pleasure to meet so many talented, interesting, interested women. I hear rumors and rumblings around me – women wanting/whispering/gossiping/screeching/digressing/disagreeing/name-calling/story-identity-stealing/myth-mistifying/labeling me. So what? So. Be wanting. Be whispering. Be gossiping (which is sharing of information). Be screeching. Digress. Disagree. Name-call and label. Make a mythology. Tell stories. Just point it in the direction of loving and caring for all women.

Be unchaste.

On Talking Earth, KBOO – Leah Rainer, Brenda Taulbee, and Camille Perry”

Jenny Forrester has been published in a number of print and online publications, including Seattle’s City Arts Magazine, Nailed Magazine, Hip Mama, The Literary Kitchen, Indiana Review, and Columbia Journal. Her work is included in the Listen to Your Mother anthology published by Putnam. She curates the Unchaste Readers Series. Her debut memoir was published recently (May, 2017) by Portland’s own, Hawthorne Books.

The Sou’wester Presents: Vradiazei plus Katie Sawicki @ Sou'wester
Feb 24 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
The Sou'wester Presents: Vradiazei plus Katie Sawicki @ Sou'wester

Vradiazei, plays dark, metal influenced folk music on acoustic instruments. “The realization that the darkest days are yet to come inspired us to abandon the use of electricity in our music. We express the anguish of the past, the desperation of the present, and the uncertainty of the future without it. When the world is left in ruin our sound will echo in the empty streets.”

***
Born in an attic “cabin” studio lined with Douglas Fir, The Cabin Project began as a solo act project started by Katie Sawicki, a former-folksinger from Brooklyn who became inspired by electric guitars, keys, synthesizers, and balancing all three onstage. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2008, Sawicki sought out sound rooted in the intimacy of folk, and the arrangements of orchestral rock. While she typically collaborates with her full-time band of percussion, strings, and bass, the solo Cabin Project builds this community of influences and collaborations and cultivates a sound that chimes earnest, reverent, and full of warmth. Her most recent record, released with the Cabin Project, Unfolded, is self-described as, “an album about despair, loss, hope, freedom, heartache, justice and love.”
