Global Traditions of Ceramics – Intro to Handbuilding 3-week Workshop series w/Hans Miles.

9/9 through 9/23, 5:30-7:30p. Ages 10-14 w/an adult or 14+. $140.

In this class, learners will gain a comprehensive understanding of the handbuilding techniques of pinching and coiling to create two unique vessels. The first vessel will serve as an introduction to these fundamental skills, while the second will be inspired by a historically significant object, such as a Jomon pot, a Minoan octopus vase, or an Incan Moche vessel. This second project will challenge your skills and allow you to incorporate your personal narrative, deepening your understanding of the rich history of ceramics.

This class is a great way to build up your handbuilding skills while also broadening your creative abilities with a wider understanding of the history of influential ceramic works. We will go in depth on techniques, processes, surface decoration, textures and materials in this open-ended series but also spend time perfecting your fundamentals toolkit of wedging, glazing and forming.
